Renowned pianist Robert Thies is the only American pianist to win a Russian piano competition since Van Cliburn’s triumph in Moscow. His dramatic interpretation of Brahms’s Second Piano Concerto will thrill and inspire. This concert of classical favorites opens with music from Wagner’s rousing Prelude to Lohengrin. Finally, experience the power and splendor as Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition draws this program of masterpieces to a close with the majestic Great Gate of Kiev.
Tickets: Single tickets are $15-$65 and are available through Des Moines Performing Arts (up until two hours prior to performances) and the Civic Center Ticket Office (221 Walnut Street, Des Moines; open 9a-5p Monday through Friday and two hours prior to performances).
Student tickets are $7.50-$32.50 and are available through the Civic Center Ticket Office.
Student rush tickets, subject to availability, are $5 for junior high and high school students and $10 for all other students the day of the concert through the Civic Center Ticket Office.
The duration of these concerts is approximately two hours and ten minutes, which includes a 20-minute intermission. This program will be rebroadcast at 4 pm on April 23 and at 7 pm on April 24 on Iowa Public Radio, the Radio Home of the Des Moines Symphony.
