SMETANA   The Moldau from Ma Vlast (My Fatherland)

David GILLINGHAM   Marimba Concerto No. 2

DVORAK  Symphony No. 8 in G Major

Joseph Giunta, conducting

Aaron Williams, marimba

Des Moines Civic Center, 221 Walnut Street in Downtown Des Moines

The mighty Moldau is so rich and evocative, it has become one of the most famous melodies in all of music and the anthem of Czech culture. The sunny, lyrical Eighth Symphony of Dvorák was one of the first orchestral pieces Joseph Giunta heard live as a child. “It smiles from beginning to end with melody and nostalgia,” he says. Our own outstanding Principal Percussionist Aaron Williams makes his solo debut with the Orchestra in Gillingham’s virtuosic and tuneful Marimba Concerto No. 2 – exotic music played on rare Honduran rosewood! Experience it … LIVE!

Tickets: Single tickets are $15-$55 and are available through Ticketmaster (up until two hours prior to performances) and the Civic Center Ticket Office (221 Walnut Street, Des Moines; open 9a-5p Monday through Friday and two hours prior to performances). Student tickets are $7.50-$27.50 and are available through the Civic Center Ticket Office. Student rush tickets, subject to availability, are $5 for junior high and high school students and $10 for all other students the day of the concert through the Civic Center Ticket Office.

Concert Prelude Talks begin 45 minutes prior to each Masterworks concert in the Prairie Meadows (East) Lobby.
