Go Beyond the Score in our seventh annual collaboration with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Hector Berlioz composed Symphonie Fantastique both to explore musical romanticism and to give his hometown of Paris a symphony of its own. The first half of our program blends music, multimedia and theatre to depict the dramatic life of an artist replete with unrequited love, witches, guillotines and phantasmagorical dreams. After intermission, you’ll hear the epic Symphonie Fantastique in its groundbreaking entirety.

Tickets: Single tickets are $15-$65 and are available through Des Moines Performing Arts (up until two hours prior to performances) and the Civic Center Ticket Office (221 Walnut Street, Des Moines; open 9a-5p Monday through Friday and two hours prior to performances).

Student tickets are $7.50-$32.50 and are available through the Civic Center Ticket Office.

Student rush tickets, subject to availability, are $5 for junior high and high school students and $10 for all other students the day of the concert through the Civic Center Ticket Office.

The duration of these concerts is approximately two hours and ten minutes, which includes a 20-minute intermission. This program will be rebroadcast at 4 pm on May 7 and at 7 pm on May 8 on Iowa Public Radio, the Radio Home of the Des Moines Symphony.
