Join us for our sixth annual National Anthem singing competition — the winner will perform the National Anthem with the Des Moines Symphony at the 22nd Annual Yankee Doodle Pops concert for an anticipated crowd of more than 100,000 Thu July 2 at the Iowa State Capitol!
Interested singers should contact Pamela Neubauer at email@example.com with name and key (either A-flat or B-flat) by Monday, June 8. A pianist will be provided. Walk-ups are not guaranteed a spot to audition.
Des Moines Symphony Music Director & Conductor Joseph Giunta, Renee Simmons from Bank of the West, Brad Waller from Hy-Vee, Stephanie Thompson from Casey’s General Stores, Supervisor Oort from the Polk County Board of Supervisors and Michael Morain from The Des Moines Register will judge the competition and choose the finalists. Bank of the West, Casey’s General Stores, Hy-Vee and the Polk County Board of Supervisors are the principal sponsors of the Des Moines Symphony’s Yankee Doodle Pops. Des Moines Symphony Director of Marketing & Public Relations and Symphony Academy faculty pianist Sophia S. Ahmad will accompany contestants in either Ab (A-flat) or Bb (B-flat).
For the third year, if a winner cannot be determined at the event, videos of the competition finalists will be posted at dmsymphony.org, where the public can vote for their favorite finalist through noon on Friday, June 19. The winner, as chosen by the public, will perform the National Anthem with the Des Moines Symphony at its 22nd annual Yankee Doodle Pops concert on Thursday, July 2 before an anticipated crowd of more than 100,000 at the Iowa State Capitol.
