Rachel Blumenthal is the newly-appointed Principal Flutist of the Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra and is the Second Flutist of the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra.  She has also performed with Chamber Opera Chicago, Orchestra Iowa, and other orchestras in the Chicago area.  She frequently appears as a substitute flutist with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, FL.

As a soloist and chamber musician, Rachel has performed at Disney Hall in Los Angeles; the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.; Orchestra Hall in Detroit; and has appeared several times as a soloist in Ann Arbor’s 3500-seat Hill Auditorium.  She has performed across the globe, from the United States to China, Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic.

Rachel is a native of Chicago, where she currently maintains a private studio and teaches at elementary and high schools in the area. She graduated from the University of Michigan with Highest Honors in 2011 and received her master’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 2014.  Her principal teachers were Amy Porter and Jeanne Baxtresser.
