DUSTIN R. ROSS NAMED DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

DES MOINES  – After conducting a comprehensive national search, the Des Moines Symphony & Academy is pleased to announce that Dustin R. Ross has been appointed to the position of Director of Development.

Mr. Ross most recently served as Senior Director of Alumni Engagement & Annual Giving at Cornell College where he led the reorganization of its engagement and annual giving programs, collaborated with volunteer leaders and staff to oversee growth in event attendance and volunteerism and bolstered annual giving totals to more than $2 million.

Mr. Ross began his career in Washington, D.C., serving as a community organizer for a national lobbying organization and then a fundraiser for a political startup. He then spent more than six years in higher education, first overseeing Luther College’s direct marketing annual giving programs before moving on to lead Cornell College’s annual fund efforts.

An Iowa native, Dustin holds a B.A. in English from Luther College and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Nebraska – Omaha. While in Omaha, he worked with more than 75 nonprofits to assess fundraising capacities across various types of organizations.

The Des Moines Symphony is a not-for-profit, professional orchestra formed in 1937 to enrich, educate and inspire the community by performing great orchestral music. The Symphony Association, governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees and operating on an annual budget of more than $3 million, supports the Symphony Academy and its numerous music education programs including three youth orchestras, and supports the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra which performs seven pairs of Masterworks concerts, Pops concerts including the traditional New Year’s Eve Pops, education, outreach and family concerts,  and other special events in its home at the Des Moines Civic Center. The Des Moines Symphony also produces and performs the annual Yankee Doodle Pops concert in July on the grounds of the Iowa State Capitol, which for the past several years attracted more than 100,000, the largest single day attendance of any concert event in the State.  -DMSO-
