As a not-for-profit and Central Iowa’s only fully-professional symphony orchestra, the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra depends on donations to perform seven pairs of Masterworks concerts every season, as well as our annual New Year’s Eve Pops, Yankee Doodle Pops, Youth and Family Concerts.
The Orchestra, comprised of more than 80 professional musicians—your neighbors and fellow Iowans—is an integral factor in the vibrant cultural offering and rich quality of life we enjoy in Central Iowa. We’re proud of our musicians and proud of their artistic accomplishments as one of the finest regional orchestras in the country.

Support The Des Moines Symphony Academy
The Des Moines Symphony Academy is one of only a few music academies in the country to benefit from direct affiliation with a professional symphony orchestra. Eleven of our 22 faculty members are Des Moines Symphony musicians, who together serve our community through 18 quality music education programs, including private lessons, group lessons, summer camps, Honors Ensembles and three Youth Orchestras.
Together our faculty, along with guest artists who conduct special masterclasses and workshops, bring extraordinary music education experiences to over 450 students each year, enhancing the lives of area young people and providing opportunities for intellectual and social growth.
In order to keep tuition affordable, we rely on generous citizens like you to provide funding to bridge the gap between our affordable tuition rates and the actual cost of our programs. Private funding also makes it possible for us to offer scholarships to qualified students.
