BA – The University of Northern Iowa
Heather Gillis has a passion for piano pedagogy and enjoys collaborating with musicians through accompanying and ensemble playing. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in General Music from the University of Northern Iowa, where she studied piano with professor Sean Botkin. She has also received training in piano performance and collaboration with Dr. Suzanne Torkelson. Ms. Gillis is in her seventh year of teaching piano lessons and has been an active member of the Music Teachers National Association as well as the Central Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association and the Wartburg College Collegiate Chapter.
Beginning piano lessons as a young child allowed Ms. Gillis to develop a life-long interest in music. She grew up in southeast Iowa where she competed in local artist competitions, began a piano teaching studio and performed as an active church musician, which she has now been doing for over ten years. In 2011, she became a co-winner of the Marilynn Minford McCoid Young Artist Competition and the following year, performed Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2 in Bb Major with the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Bob McConnell.
Ms. Gillis believes that there is intrinsic value in taking music lessons and desires to see young musicians, from their first lesson, experience the incredible enrichment to life that the piano brings.Back to Faculty
