Enter our Mini Maestro Contest!

July 18, 2019

Is your child the next Joseph Giunta? Enter them in our Mini Maestro Contest!

We’re performing A John Williams Spectacular on Sunday, July 28 at 7:30pm as part of the Symphony’s free, outdoor Water Works Pops concert series. But first, we’re kicking off the evening with a live conducting contest!

Think your child has what it takes to conduct the Des Moines Symphony? Just submit a video of your “Mini Maestro” conducting the Superman Theme. While musicianship is a plus, we’re also looking for an enthusiastic and memorable performance. We’ll choose five finalists from the video submissions, and invite them to compete onstage at Water Works Park. The winner will conduct the Des Moines Symphony as they play the Superman Theme live at Water Works Pops!

To submit, simply send your videos to info@dmsymphony.org, tag the Des Moines Symphony on any of our social media channels, or send us a YouTube link. There is no cost to enter. All submissions must be received by 5:00pm Thursday, July 25.

Submitted videos may be reposted, with permission, on Des Moines Symphony social media channels.

The Des Moines Symphony’s Mini Maestro Contest is made possible through the generosity of Russ & Kathy Bitterman. At this year’s annual Viewing Party for Yankee Doodle Pops, Russ and Kathy won the opportunity to guest conduct the Symphony.  We thank them for turning their winning bid into an exciting opportunity for children in our community.
