Youth Wind Ensemble


The Des Moines Symphony Academy is pleased to announce the creation of the Des Moines Symphony Youth Wind Ensemble.  Led by Robert Meunier, Director of Bands at Drake University, this elite ensemble will provide motivated and accomplished high school woodwind, brass and percussion musicians with the opportunity to develop their musicianship and leadership skills through the study of traditional and cutting-edge wind ensemble repertoire under the tutelage of an esteemed Wind Ensemble Director.


2018-2019 General Rehearsal Schedule

Grades: 9-12
Tuition: $200 for the 2018-2019 season (Jan-Apr)
Rehearsals: Mondays 7:00-8:30 p.m.

Rehearsals will begin in late January 2019.  A detailed season schedule will be provided at fall auditions.

For these auditions, musicians are asked to have a short musical selection prepared that demonstrates their current ability level. Audition pieces do not need to be memorized or performed with accompaniment.

These auditions generally last about (2-3) minutes and are scheduled by reservation. Auditioning musicians will not be asked for scales or sight-reading.

PERCUSSIONISTS – Musicians auditioning for the percussion section are asked to audition on snare drum, timpani and/or xylophone. Auditioning percussionists will need to bring their own mallets.
