ANNA GENIUSHENE

Anna Geniushene earned international attention at the 2022 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, where she won the silver medal and was praised for the depth and individuality of her playing. Critics were unanimous in their admiration: Musical America cited her “powerhouse sound, forceful musical personality, and sheer virtuosity,” Onstage NTX noted “a performance of rare devotion and insight,” and La Scena described her interpretation as “fresh… with every bar compelling.” In the wake of the competition, her profile rose quickly—she was named Musical America’s Young Artist of the Month in July 2022 and appeared on the cover of Pianist magazine in June 2023.

Her recent and upcoming engagements reflect her expanding presence on major international stages. She makes orchestral debuts with the Atlanta Symphony under Nathalie Stutzmann, the Orquesta Filarmónica de Buenos Aires with Zoe Zeniodi, the Stavanger Symphony with Giuseppe Mengoli, the Des Moines Symphony with Miguel Harth-Bedoya, the Kristiansand Symfonieorkester with Andrey Boreyko, and the Osaka Philharmonic with Robert Trevino. She also returns to the Taipei Symphony with Eliahu Inbal and the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra with Juraj Valčuha. Recital highlights include the Elbphilharmonie, Klavier-Festival Ruhr, Biarritz Piano Festival, Piano aux Jacobins, Carmel Music Society, Rockport Music, and the Rafael Orozco Piano Festival. Duo appearances with her husband, pianist Lukas Geniušas, include engagements at Tippet Rise, the Vilnius Philharmonic, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and the Chopin and His Europe Festival. She continues regular chamber performances with the Bowers Program of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.

Geniushene’s recent album Opus 1 on Alpha Classics explores the first published works of Romantic masters. It follows her duo album with Geniušas, Hallelujah Junction, and her acclaimed 2023 solo release Berceuse. Born in Moscow in 1991, she debuted at age seven in the small hall of the Berlin Philharmonic and has since built a versatile career across major world stages. A graduate of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and the Royal Academy of Music, she is also an active teacher and currently lives in Berlin with her husband and their two sons.

Miguel Harth-Bedoya leads the Des Moines Symphony for Love – Romeo & Juliet, featuring a memorable program of Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet, Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2, and Ravel’s jazz-infused Piano Concerto in G Major, with Des Moines debut pianist Anna Geniushene.
