Amanda Drish joined the Des Moines Symphony staff full time in September 2017. Amanda received her Bachelor’s of Music in violin performance from Coe College, Suzuki Book 1 certification, TRIAD training from Vanderbilt University, and TEFOL/TESOL certification from Oxford Seminars.
Amanda is an educator, violinist, and dedicated leader in the cultivation of the beginning strings community. Her mission to explore alternative teaching techniques in classical environments reflects her multifaceted background in jazz and contemporary performance styles. Determined to inspire a wider audience and reach among string players, Amanda encourages accessibility for students of all backgrounds within her local community. Her interdisciplinary work in continuing Iowa youth string initiatives highlights the value of collaboration to expand and grow a sustainable musical community within central Iowa.
In her role as Director of Project Encore, the Academy's one-of-a-kind collaboration with the Boys & Girls Club of Central Iowa, Amanda works to ensure students can access music instruction and instruments at no cost to their families. As the manager of Beginning Strings and Community Connections, Amanda oversees the Academy's growing Beginning Strings program at both the Temple for Performing Arts and Franklin Junior High, manages instructors, and coordinates Instrument Petting Zoos and other education opportunities throughout Central Iowa.
