Gretchen Theesfield began the violin at age 2 1/2 and piano at age 4. After studying violin with Julie Fox-Henson she went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in violin performance at Iowa State University in 2005. In addition to being a member of the Des Moines Symphony, she plays regularly for concerts and events throughout central Iowa, including Concertmaster of the Central Iowa Symphony. Gretchen teaches violin and piano in Ames, Iowa.

How I got started playing my instrument

My older sister Leah started a couple of years before me and I naturally had to do everything she did.
