The Des Moines Symphony today announced that it would cancel all concerts and public events through June 14 at the Des Moines Civic Center and the Temple for Performing Arts due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Further information for ticketholders can be found on this page.

The following concerts have been cancelled and will not be rescheduled:

  • Masterworks 6: April in Paris (April 18 & 19)

  • Masterworks 7: The Firebird (May 9 & 10)

  • Sensory-Friendly Concert: American Folk Tales (June 14)

Carmina Burana, originally scheduled March 14 & 15, has been rescheduled and will be performed in the Des Moines Civic Center on September 19 & 20, 2020. No action is required from Carmina Burana ticketholders; all previously issued tickets will be valid for the rescheduled performance dates.

Due to the financial hardship presented by cancelling these concerts, we encourage you to consider donating the value of your tickets back to the Des Moines Symphony.

In times of uncertainty and isolation, our community needs great music now more than ever. Your tax-deductible ticket donations will support our mission to enrich our community with great music, just as we have for 82 years. Help us ensure we can keep making music together for years to come.

TICKET POLICY FOR CANCELLED CONCERTS

We are offering the following options for ticket holders impacted by this cancellation.

  • Donate your ticket. Due to the significant financial impact of these cancellations, we encourage ticket holders to donate your tickets back to the Des Moines Symphony. By donating the value of your unused tickets, you are providing vital support for the music and musicians that inspire and connect our community. The Federal CARES Act allows non-itemizers to deduct up to $300 in cash giving for the 2020 tax year; a tax donation receipt will be provided to you upon request. To donate your tickets, please email info@dmpa.org with your full name as well as the concert(s) for which you hold tickets.
  • If you are unable to donate, please consider exchanging your cancelled tickets for an upcoming Des Moines Symphony concert through May 2021. We will exchange your tickets based on comparable value, seating, and availability. Please email your exchange requests along with your full name as well as the concert(s) for which you hold tickets to info@dmpa.org. All requests will be handled in the order received.
  • If neither of these options work for you, please email us to discuss additional accommodations.

We must hear from you. Donations or exchanges may be requested now through May 6, 2020. Please contact us via the links above at your earliest convenience.

OFFICE CLOSURES

Des Moines Symphony and Des Moines Performing Arts staff are working remotely while the physical offices are closed. We encourage you to email us via the links above with ticketing questions and requests for the quickest response.
