Building on the successful growth of the Des Moines Symphony Academy Youth Orchestras program, the Symphony Academy is excited to expand our programs to celebrate motivated and accomplished high school woodwind, brass and percussion musicians.

The Youth Wind Ensemble will provide the opportunity to serve even more young musicians in Central Iowa, an area which has a long-standing tradition of offering quality school band programs.

Led by Robert Meunier, a member of the percussion section of the Des Moines Symphony for more than 25 years, and Director of Bands and Professor of Percussion at Drake University, this elite ensemble will provide high school woodwind, brass and percussion musicians with the opportunity to develop their musicianship and leadership skills through the study of traditional and cutting-edge wind ensemble repertoire under the tutelage of an esteemed Wind Ensemble Director.

“The Des Moines Symphony Youth Wind Ensemble is a tremendous opportunity for motivated and accomplished high school woodwind, brass and percussion students of Central Iowa to continue to develop their skills as musicians and artists outside of their regular school experiences,” said Meunier. “I am extremely excited to be working with the Des Moines Symphony Academy, and look forward to serving as this ensemble’s Conductor.”
