The Des Moines Symphony Orchestra and Academy's offices are located at The Temple for Performing Arts at 1011 Locust Street. In addition to offices, the entire Symphony Academy, including spaces for private lessons, practice rooms, rehearsal and concert spaces, are also housed in the building.

The Temple is a beautiful piece of Des Moines architecture, but faces challenges that all historical buildings face. Over the course of the last year, we were able to give the Symphony Academy studio spaces a much-needed facelift thanks to the Bravo of Greater Des Moines' 2023 Capital Project Grant, with lease improvement support provided by Temple Partners.

We were so excited to create a new, welcoming space for Symphony Academy students from around the metro. The renovations included updates to the majority of practice rooms that are used for private lessons, often given by Symphony musicians. The updated space features new photos of our students and faculty, comfortable seating, updated lighting, tables for parents, students and faculty to work, and much needed new carpet and a fresh coat of paint.

We also commissioned a mural from a local Des Moines company to greet students as they exit the elevator into the space.

Thank you again to Bravo! Greater Des Moines for your continued support and for making these renovations possible.
