On Sunday, July 12 we hosted the streaming premiere of Symphony in Sculpture I, a multimedia film project commissioned for the Symphony's 75th Anniversary Season in 2012. Watch it again right here.
In 2012, the Symphony commissioned composer Steve Heitzeg to create music inspired by the John & Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park as part of its 75th Anniversary Season. Featuring symphonic portrayals of nine different sculptures, this groundbreaking multimedia project pairs high-quality recordings of the Des Moines Symphony with stunning original cinematography by Blur MediaWorks.
Composer Steve Heitzeg later followed up this original work with Symphony in Sculpture II (2015) and Symphony in Sculpture III (2019).
The 2012 Symphony in Sculpture multimedia film was published on DVD, but up until now, has never been available to stream. Now, we are thrilled to present the online debut of this momentous project as part of our DMSO at Home Series.
DMSO at Home is a Des Moines Symphony project aimed at connecting with our community online through videos, livestreamed concerts, and more. Watch for all-new content on our social channels and here at dmsymphony.org.
