Each Sunday night since April, our Symphony musicians have performed live concerts from their homes as part of our DMSO at Home series. Join us in a look back at some of our favorite livestreams and watch them all over again!
Andrew Bishop
Andrew Bishop won the Principal Trumpet position just over a year ago, but he's already become a favorite of Des Moines audiences. In this livestreamed concert, Andrew is accompanied by his professional organist and pianist mother, Genevieve Bishop, performing a concert of trumpet favorites from Gershwin to John Williams.
Quartet 515
In August, Joyce Beyer, Robert Espe, Paul Virgilio, and Hanna Wolle performed a wide ranging program from Debussy to Piazzolla, featuring pieces from Florence Price and Scott Joplin. Leading up to the concert, each member of the quartet recorded a short video touching on one of the pieces of the program; check out their videos here, then watch the performance all over again.
Jonathan Sturm
Concertmaster Jonathan Sturm has premiered two separate video projects as part of our DMSO at Home series. (Watch the first one here if you missed it!) His September video features some of his most loved and most often performed selections, all recorded with his colleague, pianist Jodi Goble, as well as a trio with Principal Cellist Julie Sturm.
Clarence Padilla with Cynthia Guinta
This recital from July features Second Clarinet Clarence Padilla and Pianist Cynthia Giunta bridging the jazz and classical worlds in a recital featuring the melodic energy of Messager's Solo de Concours, the blues licks of Bela Kovacs' After you, Mr. Gershwin, and more.
Duo Ihana
Duo Ihana's mission is to build bridges between people and cultures using the universal language of music. Join Des Moines Symphony Cellist Jesse Nummelin and his wife, Pianist Rie Tanaka, for a livestreamed concert featuring pieces that reflect their relationship with the world and with each other.
John Helmich & Sophia Ahmad
Join Des Moines Symphony violinist John Helmich and his wife, pianist Sophia S. Ahmad for a livestreamed recital of all-time classical favorites including Liszt, Beethoven, Schubert and Mendelssohn. John and Sophia have performed two livestreamed concerts in our DMSO at Home series; watch their encore performance here.
James Blanchard
Our May 3 DMSO at Home Sunday evening livestream featured a lively and entertaining performance from Principal Flute James Blanchard. James will be performing again in our DMSO at Home series later this fall; we can't wait for his repeat performance!
The Dueling Fiddles
The Dueling Fiddles are perennial favorites in our DMSO at Home livestream series! Hanna Wolle & Geneviève Salamone have joined us a number of times throughout the series (first here, and most recently here) but we're partial to this retro-themed concert from June.
Erin Brooker-Miller
Principal Harp Erin Brooker-Miller has played two concerts in our DMSO at Home series (see her most recent performance here), but the beautiful setting of her first livestream makes this April performance worth another watch.
Casey Maday
We're taking it all the way back to our very first livestreamed performance! On April 5, Principal Trombone Casey Maday played the first DMSO at Home livestream, accompanied by his wife, Dr. Erin Bodnar. We can't wait to welcome Casey back again for another performance in October - watch this space for the concert announcement!
DMSO at Home is a Des Moines Symphony project aimed at connecting with our community online through videos, livestreamed concerts, and more. Watch for all-new content on our social channels and here at dmsymphony.org/athome.
